Artistic Inspiration
Sheri was born in Canada and spent most of her adult life working in various countries around the world, exploring what it means to be human and connection to nature. These nomadic experiences can be seen in her artwork through her exploratory process and love for colour. In 2018 she moved back to Canada, settling in the small port-side town of Gibsons BC where she continues to draw inspiration from the nature around her.
Sheri seeks to capture the essence of life, painting the rhythms that exists in nature. Abstract concepts dance together on the canvas, and she seeks balance through stillness and movement. Her paintings are a reflection of nature in its most primordial form, connecting one with emotion, movement, peace and change. She works mainly in acrylic, using collage, pastel and glazes to create paintings rich in texture and atmosphere. This movement invites viewers to pause and reflect on their own connection to the unseen rhythms of life.
When not in the studio you can find her walking the local trails in the sunshine coast with her dog, working at the SPIDER Elementary school in Roberts Creek or volunteering at the local art gallery.
Teaching Philosophy
Mainly a self taught artist she studied with a range of instructors through the years. She now shares her knowledge as a facilitator of adult community classes, encouraging others to create from a place of childlike wonder while nurturing their creativity and artistic voice.
Studio and Recognition
Sheri has been a guest artist on An Artist in The House (National TV broadcast) and won the Sunshine Coast Writers Society People’s Choice Award for best painting at the Art and Words festival in 2024. Some of her paintings have been featured in the anthology “Not an Island” and on the Cover of the book “Snippets in a small town” – showcasing life on the BC coast. Sheri is part of the artist co-op at the Coastal Art Gallery in Sunnycrest Mall, Gibsons, where her work is on continuous display.
